To put this into perspective, when a patient in cardiac arrest receives defibrillation within three to five minutes of collapse, survival rates rise to 50 to 70 per cent. Although at times we can find ourselves in tough situations, volunteering and offering much-needed help locally is extremely rewarding. As part of the St. Albans Community First Responders group, we also offer CPR and defibrillator training to community groups and clubs around the district. Not only does this help extend the crucial knowledge of basic life support, it also offers us a way of gaining donations and funding for our kit and uniform.
