O ver the last year we have introduced over 250 local children to the joys of woodwork! We encourage the children to work with their hands, assess risk, think creatively, play and enjoy the process of making things. Their creations are always useful as objects of play, pieces of art to be admired, and, more important than the outcome, the kids have used and learned skills that will be useful for life! We have made some wonderful friends along the way and some of our first customers still come to classes a year later. The children have developed some amazing skills, and I have particularly enjoyed seeing the younger children, who have returned with grandparents in tow and who quickly became regulars! We have lived in St. Albans for 20 years and have a local furniture business, but as an ex-Geography teacher in a local school, I was missing the contact with children and teaching. It has been great to get back into working within the local community. We have two main classes during the week in the Marshalswick Community Centre - one for 3-10 year olds on Wednesday afternoons, including children who are home-educated, and one on Friday afternoons for 3-5 year olds. We also now run regular after-school sessions at both Bernards Heath and Wheatfields Infant School, as well as hosting the occasional birthday party at the Marshalswick Community Centre!
