We love the summer at MARSHALSWICK LIBRARY A s the Summer fast approaches, it is time for the Summer Reading Challenge! This ever-popular programme, produced by the Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with public libraries, encourages children to read for fun in their summer holidays and prevents a potential ‘dip’ in their reading levels. Accessible to all, it provides a fun and free activity throughout the summer. We had an amazing 800 children sign up at Marshalswick Library last year, and the staff and volunteers loved seeing how enthusiastic the children were about reading and telling us all about their chosen books. We hope to have a similar number (or more!) sign up this year. In partnership with Create, a leading charity bringing the creative arts to those who need it most our theme in 2024 is ‘Marvellous Makers’, encouraging children to get creative! From dance to drawing, junk modelling to music, there’s something for everyone. Taking Part The challenge will run from 6 th July and the children will be asked to read six books and encouraged to visit the library throughout to talk to us about the books they have read. They will collect stickers and once they have read their six books, they will receive a personalised certificate, medal, and a finishing gift – and be entered into a prize draw.
