Education news Sandringham School Y ou may have read that Sandringham finally (after 16 years) had a visit from Ofsted in February. As expected, the team of inspectors loved spending time with us, saying what a brilliant school we have, and graded us Outstanding in every category. The report can be read on our school website. Well done everyone! Another busy time of the year – examinations have begun. However, we continue to offer plenty of activities for students. Too many to mention here, so check our website and the SandPrint for all the details. Here are just some of our recent events. Teaching For the past four years, the school has been working on a project to provide opportunities for sixth form students to experience teaching. This year, twenty two Year 12 students completed the course and graduated under the scheme. They really enjoyed the opportunity to teach either primary or secondary age students in subjects from Modern Languages, Science, Maths, PRE and English. They will make some amazing teachers in the future. Our scheme is now being showcased Nationally as a way of supporting recruitment to the profession. Sandringham students have been busy playing in numerous district, county and national sporting finals. We also said goodbye to our lovely Year 11 and 13 students in May, as they start their public examinations. It was particularly nice to see almost 300 Year 13 students celebrating in style by dressing up in the theme of ‘Film and TV characters’ for their celebration assembly. We wish both year groups the best of luck for the future. Last year, younger students planted over 400 saplings and these are now establishing themselves around the campus. Sustainability developments this year include the installation of over 1000 solar panels across the campus that are already generating a significant amount of energy, helping to reduce costs but more importantly, further reducing our carbon footprint and saving the planet. We also celebrated Sir David Attenborough’s 98 th Birthday by making and sending him a box of birthday cards made from recycled material. 16
