Skyswood Ancient Woodland
Skyswood Ancient Woodland is a small but beautiful area of semi-natural ancient woodland. It contains a good mixture of native tree species and an extensive population of bluebells. Several bird species have been recorded including nuthatch, long tailed, blue and great tits as well as Speckled wood butterflies also commonly spotted here. The woodland is part of Sherwood Avenue Open Space and borders St John Fisher Primary School. There are two surfaced paths through the woodland; one running from Hazelmere Road to Sherwood Avenue and the other linking this path to Hughenden Road. The Parish Council often hold volunteer mornings here, where we carry out essential maintenance duties such as bramble clearance and also to clean existing bird boxes and erect new ones, coppice the hazel trees and create log piles for wildlife.
